Design Reveal : Our Desk
Hi guys, I am so happy to announce that we remodeled our drafting desk!
I have been dying to remodel our desk since I moved in! I mentioned in a couple of posts that I moved into my boyfriend's room. It has been so great living together and learning to fuse our design styles. But our living arrangement does propose a couple of challenges, one being that we are renting a room and not an apartment. Therefore, we don't have any other rooms to designate as our "office"! We are both artists (you can see his paintings down below hehe) and we both require a lot of time in the office, so our room serves as both our living quarters And our office. Which is totally fine because our room is huge and we love working in each others company! :)
But as you can see in the photo above, our desk is pretty unorganized and messy. So far, it has worked fine for us and has offered the space that we needed, but I'm a perfectionist. I knew we could create more space and more use of our desk. I also wanted to create something was more appealing to the eye and "on trend". Which is why I opted for pegboard.
I saw a lot of photos on Pinterest that had some really innovating pegboards and craft stations. I also saw some pegboards that were super minimalistic and clean, providing use for tools as well as aesthetic plants and decor. I could think of at least 100+ things I could want on my pegboard, but I had to narrow it down to two important factors:
1. Tools that are needed often and/or taking up storage space
2. Items that will contribute to our success (i.e. To-do list, Calendar, etc.).
The plants and other things I could add if there was any space and budget left over. I began browsing for pegboards, clips, nails, hooks, and accessories and found the PERFECT ones from Home Depot. They offer pegboards that come in black, which was so totally perfect for our industrial room, AND they sell packs of nails, hooks, and clips that come in all sizes. I will say that the pegboard was a bit pricey for the quality, but the color and gloss was so unique, I had to get it. We did have to return the first batch that was sent because the boards broke in the package. We would have picked it up from the store, which is what I recommend due to the lack of durability in pegboard, but this particular kind is an online exclusive.
Now for the accessories! I got all of the shelves, buckets, and plants from IKEA, including that darling little wooden figure. IKEA was the perfect place for this type of project, because their style is all about maximum use in a minimalist lifestyle. Their home displays always have product that serves as an aesthetic piece, but also as storage, which I love. And their prices make it affordable!
This design is perfect for my boyfriend and I to share! It offers so much space for both of our tools. I'm so happy we were able to find a place for his paint brushes and other tools as well as a place for my rulers and drawing utensils. We were even able to fit a calendar/to-do list/pin board which is going to be so useful as we plan our projects.
I hope you guys enjoyed this peek into our remodel! If you want to recreate this look, here is where you can shop it:
