Design Reveal : The Hill Home (part 1)

In case some of you didn't know, I am currently attending school as I pursue Interior Design! My goal is to become NCIDQ certified so that I may open the door to more design opportunities and gain more knowledge within the field. This Design Reveal will most likely serve as a portfolio piece, that I will submit when I apply for a Bachelor's program. I decided to call this project the Hill Home, because one day I hope to be designing an entire home for a client!

Kitchen

Let's start with my favorite room in a home, the kitchen! As you can see above, I created a mood board. This where I collect actual materials and patterns that I plan on using in a design, and place them next to each other, gathering the full scope of the project. In this mood board, I included cabinetry, hardware, granite, shelving, lighting and furniture pieces.

The entire style of the Hill Home is contemporary, but I tried to incorporate hints of other styles throughout the home. The sub styles include industrial, rustic, and bohemian. The kitchen, in particular, showcases an industrial touch through the piped shelving and kitchen accessories and a rustic touch through farmhouse sink and textured wood flooring. The kitchen maintains that bright, contemporary style through elements such as the high-end hardware, brass accents, globe pendant lighting, marble countertops and leather stools.

Dining Room

For the dining room, I went for a more neutral color scheme. Keeping the larger pieces of furniture within that scheme allowed for more play of color within the accessories, such as the plants, vases, and wall art. One trend that I have been seeing in residential design is the mix matching of dining room chairs. I included two chairs, one offering contrast and shape and the other providing a soft contrast and elegant suede texture. The rug I selected separated the dining room from the open floor plan and provided a feminine, neutral touch!

Guest Bathroom

Instead of showing you guys my mood board for the guest bathroom, I wanted to show you the inspiration I collected for it. Yes, mood boards help significantly when it comes to deciding which materials and products to use, but I feel that inspirational photos do just as much! What attracted me to these photos was the drama that each one emitted. I wanted the Hill Home's guest bathroom to be dramatic, bold, and interesting. That is why I included a high contrast between the shiplap, grey paint, patterned tile, dark hardware, and brass accents.
